Psychological Manipulation, Cultic Groups, and Other Alternative Movements

Madrid, Spain, July 14-16, 2005

The International Cultic Studies Association (ICSA) is an interdisciplinary network of academicians, professionals, former group members, and families who study and educate the public about social-psychological influence and control, authoritarianism, and zealotry in cultic groups, alternative movements, and other environments. Founded in 1979 as AFF (American Family Foundation), ICSA took on its current name in late 2004 to better reflect the organization's focus and increasingly international and scholarly dimensions.

Facility

Conference registration and meeting rooms will all be located at the Faculty of Psychology (www.uam.es/centros/psicologia/paginas/) of the Autonomous University of Madrid (http://www.uam.es/), Ciudad Universitaria de Cantoblanco, Carretera de Colmenar km. 15, 28049, Madrid (tel: 91 497 50 00). On the campus map see 7 for Faculty of Psychology (http://www.uam.es/presentacion/mapa/default.html)

Accommodations

Attendees have two options regarding accommodations.

  1. They may arrange their own accommodations at local hotels.  We have obtained special rates from the following hotels:

Hotel Chamartin

Holiday Inn Tres Cantos

Both hotels are easily accessible to the campus via public transportation (see train station at 27 on the campus map).

  1. Attendees may register for overnight accommodations at the university residence halls through ICSA. The residences are open to vacation stays connected to the conference.  Singles and doubles - all with kitchen facilities and private baths - are available at very low rates.

See the registration form to reserve at the University Residence. The Erasmo University Residence opened in January 2004, in agreement with Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. It is located near the Faculty of Psychology (see 32 in campus map).

Additional information (including pictures) on the Residence Halls (www.resa.es).  Virtual tour (http://www.resa.es/tourVirtual/hoteles/22/index.asp).

Meals

Attendees may purchase inexpensive meals (e.g., 5-6 Euros for lunch - about $7-$9) at the university cafeterias in or near the Faculty of Psychology.  Sessions end at 5:30 pm (except for Friday, which ends at 7:30 pm), so attendees are free to socialize and have dinner at restaurants of their choice in Madrid. University residence hall rooms include kitchens.

Parking

Parking is open to anybody and free throughout the University campus.  In July there should be adequate parking at the University Residences and at the Psychology Faculty building.
