Psychological Manipulation, Cultic Groups, and Other Alternative Movements

Madrid, Spain, July 14-16, 2005

The International Cultic Studies Association (ICSA) is an interdisciplinary network of academicians, professionals, former group members, and families who study and educate the public about social-psychological influence and control, authoritarianism, and zealotry in cultic groups, alternative movements, and other environments. Founded in 1979 as AFF (American Family Foundation), ICSA took on its current name in late 2004 to better reflect the organization's focus and increasingly international and scholarly dimensions.

Conference Program

DRAFT: Subject to Change

The following draft program is presented to give you a better idea of what subjects will be covered during our July 2005 conference and to enable you to register early.

Although most of the sessions, speakers, and abstracts are defined, a few still have not been finalized or posted online yet.  Check back from time to time for updates. (Don't forget to refresh your browser when you do.)

Sessions are given in English, Spanish, or French (see right hand column for language).  Some sessions are repeated in another language at a different time.  Because of different capitalization conventions in the three languages, there is inconsistency in our use of capitals in titles.

We have used background colors to distinguish "tracks" in the conference.  This will help you determine more easily which sessions most interest you.  Here are the tracks and their colors:

A-Assistance: designed primarily for families, ex-members, and helping professionals.

GR - Group: sessions on specific groups, movements, or categories of groups.

R-Research: academic research reports

G-Government/Legal: sessions pertinent to law, public policy, and government actions.

T-Terrorism: a series of sessions on this timely topic.

The program is spread among several Web pages in order to make the pages load more quickly.  At the end of each page, simply click on "Next" to move on to the next page.
