The International Cultic Studies Association (ICSA) is an interdisciplinary network of academicians, professionals, former group members, and families who study and educate the public about social-psychological influence and control, authoritarianism, and zealotry in cultic groups, alternative movements, and other environments. Founded in 1979 as AFF (American Family Foundation), ICSA took on its current name in late 2004 to better reflect the organization's focus and increasingly international and scholarly dimensions.

Psychotherapy for Former Members

Lorna Goldberg, M.S.W., L.C.S.W.; Doni Whitsett, Ph.D., L.C.S.W.; Linda Dubrow-Marshall, Ph.D.

Three clinicians with many years of experience helping former group members will discuss their respective approaches to psychotherapy with this population.  Among the issues to be addressed are understanding the group experience, assessing post-group distress, managing separation and dependency feelings, improving family relationships, and dealing with practical issues related to work, education, and making up for lost time.
