Founded in 1979 as AFF (American Family Foundation), ICSA took on its current name in late 2004 to better reflect the organization's focus and increasingly international and scholarly dimensions.

Les socialisations marginales: Étude du Processus d’Intégration Sociale des Enfants Issus des Groupes Religieux Sectaires. Lorraine Derocher Il n’existe pratiquement aucune analyse scientifique sur le problème d’intégration sociale que vivent les personnes dont la socialisation première s’est déroulée presque entièrement dans un groupe religieux fermé et qui ont décidé de quitter ce groupe pour intégrer la société. Notre étude nous a permis d’identifier les éléments cognitifs, comportementaux et axiologiques qui sont ceux intériorisés dans la secte et ceux qui doivent être «réappris» pour fonctionner dans la société environnante; de comprendre comment s’effectue le processus d’intégration sociale de l’enfant socialisé dans un milieu sectaire; de cerner les différences, le cas échéant, entre le processus d’intégration vécu par les enfants de fondateurs (ou de leaders) et les autres enfants issus des milieux sectaires; enfin, identifier les défis spécifiques à ces enfants lors de leur intégration en société. Nous nous sommes appuyés sur les récits de vie de sept informateurs, tous enfants socialisés en groupes religieux fondamentalistes bibliques pour établir nos conclusions. C’est donc les résultats de cette recherche qualitative menée à partir des données cueillies sur le terrain que nous voulons communiquer par cet exposé. Marginal Socializations: Study of the Social Integration Process of Children Raised in Sectarian Groups Lorraine Derocher There is almost no scientific analysis on the problem of integration into society that confront people who received their primary socialization into a «closed» religious group and who decided to quit this group to integrate into mainstream society. This study has allowed me to identify the cognitive and behavioural elements internalized in the sect and those that need to be «relearned» in order to function properly into mainstream society; to understand how the social integration process (of a child socialized into a sect) happens; to define the differences, if the case arises, between the social integration process experienced by the children of leaders (or founders) and the other children of sects; and to identify the specific challenges of those particular children during their integration into society. I rely on biographical stories of seven children socialized in biblical fundamentalist groups to establish my conclusions. I will present the results of this qualitative research in this paper.
